Compact Tub Filling and Lidding Line for Tight Floor Space

The client needed to automate without expanding their production area. A modular layout let us place each station tightly along one cleated conveyor, with no wasted transfer space between machines.

The line can run as a stand-alone cell or connect to existing upstream and downstream equipment.

How the Line Works: Denest, Fill, Lid

  1. Denesting: Empty containers are separated from the stack and placed on the conveyor.
  2. Filling: The Unifiller depositor portions product into each container.
  3. Lid placement: An operator loads a stack of lids into the magazine. A suction-cup pick-and-place picks the lids one by one and sets each on a container.
  4. Lid closing: A roller closing head presses each snap-on lid shut. An air-reduction wheel pushes out trapped air as it closes.

Container Formats and Speeds

The lidder handles plastic containers from 125 ml to 3.78 litres, in round, square and rectangular shapes, with or without a tamper-evident seal. Changeover between container formats are performes in justa a few minutes and needs no tools.

  1. IPL plastic deli tubs: 200-1000 ml at up to 40 cpm
  2. Plastic or metal pails: from quarts to gallons at up to 30 cpm

Inside the Automatic Roller Lidder

Automatic lid pick and place

Link Pack designs and builds the lidder in Quebec. It’s simple to run: the operator’s only routine task is reloading the lid magazine.

The roller closing head applies even pressure across the lid, so snap-on and tamper-evident lids close fully on every container. The air-reduction wheel removes excess air before closing, which helps lids seat flat and keeps containers stackable.

The automatic lidder is designed to the CSA Z432-16 standard for safeguarding of machinery. The electrical panel and components are inspected and certified by CSA before shipping, so the line arrives ready for your plant’s safety review.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a tub filling and lidding line?

It’s an automated packaging line that separates empty tubs from a stack, fills them with product, and places and closes the lids. It’s used for deli salads, dips, spreads, soups and similar foods. It can also be adapted for a variety of other containers, lids and products.

  • How much floor space does a denest, fill and lid line need?

  • Can one lidder handle tubs and pails?

Generally speaking, this line can handle a range of sizes, and we always perform tests on your containers during the exploratory to analyse results.

  • Does the lidder work with tamper-evident lids?

Yes. It closes lids with or without a tamper-evident seal.
